Sleepy Sunday Morning in Downtown Historic District
This beautiful island is located near the Georgia border, 45 minutes north of
Jacksonville, Florida. It is truly one of Northeast Florida’s coastal treasures - a barrier island where its
rich colorful history and magnificent natural beauty blend perfectly. Amelia Island has recently been
named as the number 4 North American Island in the Conde Nast Traveler's 2009 Readers' Choice Awards. This is the
third consecutive year that Amelia Island, Florida was ranked in the top 10 island destinations. The
Island also received three top rankings in last year's Conde Nast Traveler's 2008 Readers' Choice
Awards.
This island is 13.5 miles long and 2 miles wide. On the northern end of the
island, you will find the historic city of Fernandina Beach with its vibrant 55-block historic district, once a
Victorian seaport village that could easily be a setting for one of Norman Rockwell’s famous paintings. It is a
cozy seaside town lined with storefronts, small intimate restaurants, beautiful Victorian homes, Bed and Breakfast
inns and a number of great restaurants.
Enjoy 13 miles of Atlantic coast beaches where you can spend a day sunbathing,
surfing or looking for shark’s teeth on the island’s magnificent sandy beaches. If you love shopping and historic
homes, spend the day strolling through the village of Fernandina Beach where large oaks dripping with Spanish moss
shade the streets as you browse antique shops, boutiques and art galleries.

The southern end of the island is lined with upscale resorts, exclusive dining,
world-class spas, championship golf courses, horseback riding and shopping. Located at this end of the island are
some of the island’s most exclusive private homes and condos located on or within easy access to some of the most
magnificent beaches in Florida.
Summer
Beach located next to the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island
If you love boating and fishing, Amelia Island FL offers numerous opportunities
for charter boats and tours to explore the area by water. Many of the yachts that cruise the Atlantic Intracoastal
Waterway make this one of their favorite stops along the way. You might even be interested in taking one of the
kayaking tours in the area.
Many simply describe this mystical island as a place that “stirs the soul” and as
a resident of the island, I would have to agree. I love sharing my passion for this small island with others and
that is the goal of this website. This site is an ongoing guide, full of information and articles and I will
continue to add to it and update it on a regular basis.
